I should probably get around to posting a Manifest re-cap, huh...

Amaranth

Was good! By comparison with 2008 it was amaaaaaazing XD I had much more fun dancing this year as they actually played music appropriate for that, the food was better (except for the watery -WATERY?!- profiteroles...) Needs to have a bar for next year though, pre-drinks will only take you so far >_>

Friday

Didn't make it ;0; I'm so sorry Mina; Morgan's costume still wasn't finished so we were frantically working at that *shakefist* you are in so much trouble for that my boy.

Saturday

I wore my (hopefully) epic looking Countess Carmilla (Vampire Hunter D) cosplay - though it was received well (judging by the number of photos taken) I think about all of 3 people knew who I was ^^ ;; I know it's my fault for picking obscure characters, but I like the challenge of making a costume very few people have done before. Also I hate having twins running around >_>

Had a very stressful moment when my hairpiece plopped off into my lap, but it was fixed with the help of Candice and Tiffy's mother at the cloakroom (so much love! so much love!) and didn't stand out too badly. Even more stressful was going first (FIRST?!) in the cosplay comp and having to parade about in front of the hundreds of extra seats crammed into the showgrounds. For someone who panics before going onstage at the mini-animania, this was hard : ( many thanks to Michelle who gave me water and soothing talks beforehand.

All in all, a good day though I didn't get around to doing much; cosplay comp tends to devour the entire day and lord knows that costume wasn't made for walking through the trader's hall ^^;;

(I ended up winning runner-up best cosplay for saturday, omgwtfetc I was so shocked I was shaking ;_; I know how tough the competition is at manifest and I wasn't expecting anything after I saw some of the amazing costumes on display, so winning that was immensely flattering)

Sunday

My cosplay choice for Sunday was Julia from Cowboy Bebop; something simpler to get around in was in order after the back breaking weight of Saturday's costume. Again, not too many people recognized me when I was walking about on my own (with Faye it was a different story, but maybe it was just that they couldn't resist the photo-op of TWO sexy babes for the price of one XP ) but it was fun all the same, especially our Bebop group's photoshoot with Brian. I have to say, I think that was the most fun I had all weekend. All of us laughing and joking around; well, mostly joking ABOUT Ambi XD poor guy. His sexuality will never be the same again.

I sadly missed out on seeing the cosplay comp as by the time I remembered the line was already miles long, but I enjoyed taking a break from it all as well. Every year manifest seems to fly past faster and faster, and I kinda feel like I see less and less of the people I go to catch up with. I was too tired to make it to the big group dinner that went down, just went home and fell asleep to some disney movies. I guess in a way it all felt anti-climactic, as one spends so many months preparing for the event and when it finally arrives it's over in a snap, without too much substance to it. I really want to make an effort to hang out with more people or attend more events next year, in order to make it more memorable and less like a fashion parade.

People are already talking about cosplay plans for next year and it's getting me thinking... I want to push my skill level even more, and pick something amazingly epic, but I'm totally dry on ideas *siiiighhh* Suggestions are welcome?

If I said you have a nice body, would you hold it against me?

So, today I was at work when this little old lady of some undefined eastern European background came up to me and said "you have very nice body" and rubbed her hands up and down her torso as she did so. I'm not sure if I was being sexually harassed or complimented. :/

...that in the scene where Dan hacks into Ozymandias' computer, there is a folder called "Boys"?

BOYS? WHUT

Also in the opening montage, he's seen opening a nightclub or something with the Village People in the background... now it was a while ago that I read the graphic novel, but I don't recall Ozymandias being gay. :/

BOYS.

'sup ladies, I'm back~

I've been in Bendigo since Saturday for my cousin's 21st, but more importantly, to check out the GOLDEN AGE OF COUTURE exhibition. HRRRGGHHHHH. If you see me on the news in the next couple of days, doing a barrel roll out of a shattered window with 20 suits and dresses draped around me KNOW THAT IT WAS JUSTIFIED. I want to take that collection out behind the museum and make love to it. Figuratively. You know.

I stayed overnight in my cousin's flat, she works for Bendigo tourism and an art gallery, as well as selling her own work by commission. I don't know her that well since she lives so far away, but she is always lovely to me, and I just adore the way she's decorated her place. Kinda reminds me of what I'd like to do when I move out, just bits and pieces that she's collected displayed all over the place that have actual history. Also she's got a 9 week old puppy (chihuahua/dachshund cross) that you can cup in your hands ;0; not really a dog person but he's so adorable and well behaved... and when he cries it breaks my heart (he doesn't like being kept away from his mommy for too long >w< )

Saturday night I skipped out on the majority of the party to eat a quiet dinner somewhere (I think I'm developing a vague kind of social anxiety, but that's another story) with a friend who made the trip up with me. I did head back at the end just in time to see my aunt calling my uncle "banana nose" and running off to hide behind a chair giggling. Gotta love tipsy relatives XD

Sunday morning we got up bright and early because we had heard that the queues into this place got up to an hour wait on saturday. We got there by the time they opened and so got in without too much trouble, though it was already swarming with people @_@ I was really surprised because it's a fairly, well, rural area! You don't expect to see so many people... especially LOLITAS. MPARF I SAW A SWEET LOLITA IN MOTHER FUCKING BENDIGO LOLOLOLOLOLOL

But more imporantly - the clothes... the clothes... were beautiful. There were over 100 suits, dresses, coats and gowns from Dior's New Look era (1947-57) that were just jaw dropping in their material and creation... the beautiful hand painted and beaded fabrics, and sculpture like forms of the suits and coats... I've been looking for a full skirted coat for some time now so seeing them all in their deliciousness in front of me was just, well, heart breaking in a grumpy old lady "they don't make 'em like that anymore" kind of way. I really marveled at the differences between the favored silhouette and face shape of the mannequins of that age and the stick like, angry looking models you see today. There was some fantastic photography as well; some from an ex sports photographer who brought in new concepts of movement and life to fashion photography. You could even see wrinkles on some of the girls in the video reels they had playing! There was just so much more... warmth and life to it than modern work *sighs* I really sound pretentious and old now... I could happily gush about this for hours, it was a fantastic exhibition <3

I wanted to buy the catalog but they'd sold out ;_; Somebody take me to metropolis books so I can buy that vintage clothing book I'd been ogling plz, I am getting sad because I do not own lovely clothes :'(

I spent this morning turning my house upside down in search of my Mum's pinking shears, even going through the trash in case I was retarded enough to throw them out. No luck anywhere, and because they were last seen in my possession my mum is either going to torture me to death slowly or ban me from her sewing desk 4evaaaaarrrrrr (which is worse ;_; )

So... anyone know where to buy a pair of pinking shears with a BLACK HANDLE (that's the most important part, so she never knows they went missing >_> ;; )?

Unfortunately this also halts my cosplay progress in its tracks as I'm currently working with a fabric that frays like all fuck if I don't use the shears. *sighs*

Something unexpectedly good happened to me at work. I was serving a customer at the registers, when she commented on my eyeliner, and how it reminded her of how she did hers in the 60s. I told her about my fondness for 40s/50s fashion, and our conversation went as follows: )

Today I went to go see Revolutionary Road with friends. Pretty good movie (though enough to put me off marriage, children and the suburbs for life), however, a couple of things went wrong. First off the movie started out like a widescreen movie crammed onto a normal tv, everything was super stretched and cropped oddly. Whilst they fixed that, all sound and visuals ceased about halfway into the movie (and was restored about 10mins after someone left the cinema to complain). I figured we'd at least get an apology but no staff member said anything, so once the movie was finished I spoke to the peon sweeping the floor and demanded to see his manager. (It feels good to be the angry customer for once instead on the peon :3) Anyway, my friends elected me spokesperson for the group as the 'assertive' one, and I got us free movie tickets as compensation. Score.

Also, Clyde, funny we should have that conversation. Look what I bought today: )

So today I got a letter from the Department of Genetics, congratulating me on my "excellent results in Genetics in second semester in 2008". I figure the letter took so long since they were triple checking my marks / name and address against the retard they knew from semester one. *continues reading*

"We hope you continue with your studies in Genetics"

...oh god no *'nam style flashback*

My results make me happy~

- passing psych, oh thank god *tears of joy*
- getting a H1 in GENETICS, OF ALL THINGS o_o the subject that I almost FAILED last semester

I'm so relieved~ french was another average H3 and Imperial Rome a H2A, so overall not too bad. Still reeling from the genetics thing... I don't even know what my 'good' subjects are anymore, since my grades are always so topsy turvy. I got a H1 last semester for psych, after all, and even though I put in the hard yards for it this semester too I didn't go well at all. :/

I always say I'm going to buckle down harder and get better results next semester but I've learned by now that'll never happen. So, to chocolate hub during class again~ hehehehe

It's going to be strange after next year though :/ most of the people I know will have finished their 3rd year of uni and will be out getting real jobs and whatnot, and I'll still be at uni slacking off and putting off the day when I have to get serious about life.

Happy things:
- being complimented several times today (by complete strangers) on my outfit. Most notably the girls who told me I looked like a doll >w< *glowy* and the guy who told me he wished he had a camera because I looked so damn good. Less good: the guy who tried to chat me up in a mildly creepy way outside the bank. When I said I was waiting for my boyfriend he looked inside the windows as if he'd catch me lying about anyone being in there >_> ;;
- Morgan accidentally forgetting to take his share of the chocolate. *consumes anyway*
- My new Route 66 pedal pushers and sailor jacket <3 which I can't wait to wear out, along with the divine MAC lipstick Bek bought me as a christmas present

Material goods make me happy <3

I need more thoughts from people, as opinions are really divided on whether I ought to get glasses like this:

What say you? I'm thinking of saving up to buy a 2nd pair like it to have variety (I'd still keep my regular frames). *ponders*

Sorry [info]mparf

Your "8 days of Happiness" tag came at a kind of unfortunate time and I haven't been able to think of anything that's made me really happy lately.

I failed my first LJ meme ;_; (*edit* Though I fulfilled the first and foremost, most basic use of a Livejournal account - posting emo crap that noone care about *pats self on back*)

*goes back to bed*

Tagged by [info]mparf who wants me to finally break my LJ's virginity. Here goes:

The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day.

Today... I was happy because my sister came home from schoolies ^-^ and I've been missing her.

Work sucked though. We started playing Christmas carols far too early for my liking - I highly doubt I can take a month more of these before I feel the need to fashion myself some kind of mace out of a tree trunk, with a heavy glass star attached by tinsel; and lay the smackdown on anyone who sets off the rapping Santa doll. So help me god, I will HURT YOU if you so much as look at it. All retail workers are really -this- close to going postal this time of year *sighs* I'm such a grinch nowadays because of it. I bought Christmas cards today because I feel slightly panicked about not having started any of that stuff, but then realized I don't know where half my friends live >_> ;;;

Made it by 5 minutes! Take that, Mina~
